Department of Bionano Engineering
Modern engineering and science are bringing previously exclusive academic areas together, and the convergence of these technologies is rapidly growing as a mainstay of advanced-level studies and industry applications.
This department was strategically established by Hanyang University in 2010, and aims to produce skillful engineers with practical knowledge of biotechnology as well as nanotechnology, and experts who can transform industries into next-generation growth engines.
In addition, beginning with the Micro biochip Center supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in 2001, the department has been proving its excellence with multiple projects at the national level. It successfully bid for the BK 21 project group (supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology) in 2006, the ERC Research Center tasked with developing integrated human sensing technology (supported by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning) in 2008, the Nanomedicine Research Center with leading university in industry-academia cooperation in 2011, and the BK 21 Plus Bionano Convergence initiative (supported by the Ministry of Education) in 2013. Such success has helped the department become widely recognized both in Korea and abroad for excellence in research.
