College of Engineering Sciences

“Since its opening in 1979, the College of Engineering Sciences has played a pivotal role in enabling the ERICA Campus to offer practical learning and education prepared based on extensive industry-academia cooperation at the ERICA research cluster, and to help Hanyang University grow as a research-driven university.

The College of Engineering Sciences currently has two departments, including the Department of Architecture (architecture/architectural engineering major) and the Department of Electronic Engineering, and offers programs specializing in civil and environmental engineering, transportation and logistics engineering, materials and chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial and management engineering, bio-nano engineering, robotics engineering, convergence engineering, and defense information engineering. It also has a Smart Convergence Engineering Department (five majors), which facilitates the early employment of enrolled students. Overall, the College has more than 3,300 talented engineering students enrolled in its undergraduate programs.

Winning the Prime (CK-II) project, a government educational infrastructure support project, has helped the College of Engineering Sciences build an environment that offers state-of-the-art education and hands-on experience in most departments. In particular, it has recently established a digital education center with the Department of Robotics Engineering as its lead department. The College is establishing the best infrastructure for learning in the country with successful bids made for multiple large-scale national projects, such as the Shared Innovation University Project and the government-led Collaborative Major and Track Project in which the Semiconductor Major at the Department of Electronic Engineering was selected for.

Furthermore, while pursuing engineering education for breakthroughs in manufacturing, the College is looking to strengthen its communication to fully reflect the needs of students, who constitute the “consumers” of ERICA’s education, and in order to create value for both students and the society.

The College delivers learning experiences that go well beyond lecture halls. It provides students with opportunities for practical field training in various industries, and has a capstone design program to promote creative and convergent thinking. In particular, the College offers team learning for students to solve problems in the field with team-oriented activities available through a wider range of Industry-Coupled Problem-Based Learning (IC-PBL) courses, all of which are helping ERICA establish new trends in worldwide education.

The College of Engineering Sciences has the largest number of BK21 Four educational research groups within the ERICA campus as well, and it continues to serve as a driving force in improving Hanyang University’s competitiveness as a research-driven university that encourages industry-academic cooperation with its new Center for Strategic Research Support and contract-based graduate school departments.”
