Department of Japanese Studies
In particular, Hanyang University was the first Korean university to offer a local semester program in Japan since 2006, sending 25 or so 3rd year students to Tokai University in Japan each semester.
This program provides opportunities for students enrolled in Japanese studies to learn Japanese and experience Japanese culture locally without having to worry about funds and expenses.
In addition, the department holds a job fair every year and invites local Japanese companies in order to give students a better chance at securing internships and jobs.
Meanwhile, Hanyang University's Graduate School of Japanese Studies has been recognized for its excellence in research and education, and it is a beneficiary of the government's graduate student scholarship support project, Brian Korea 21 (BK 21), since the first phase of the BK 21 project in 1999.
In 2020, the Graduate School of Japanese Studies was newly selected for the BK 21 FOUR, making it the first-ever department in the field of Japanese studies to be selected for all stages (1~4) of the BK project.
Through this project, the department currently provides opportunities for master's and doctoral candidates to participate in research and attend academic seminars overseas without worrying about the cost.
